If you are ever in the position to do house renovations, whether from an insurance claim, or you just want to remodel, we cannot stress enough the importance of hiring qualified general contractors who hold the proper licenses and insurance. In February 2018, we had a bathroom leak in our home and we hired someone that claimed he could do fix the issue and remodel our home.
We hired James Merritt of Merritt Environmental. From the beginning, the work was sub-standard and much of the project had to be re-done numerous times. The focal point of the construction is a large walk-in tiled shower that currently leaks into the downstairs living room. Therefore, the shower must be torn out completely and re-built. It was reported to us by one of Merritt’s sub-contractors, that a flood test on the shower was never performed. Also, there is no P-trap in the shower drain allowing sewer gases into the shower enclosure. This is only one of MANY stories from our remodel experience with Merritt Environmental. We have numerous pictures to prove all the defects as well as written documentation. Our attorney has tried to contact James with a letter, called him, however, James Merritt has not responded.
