Air Conditioning Season

As summer creeps up on us (too slowly in my opinion!  I’m in Ohio…it’s still not quite summer here!), it’s about that time to turn on the AC! Air conditioning units are a great way to keep cool during summer months, but they’re also a common cause of water damage. Before firing it up, it’s a good idea to make sure it’s working properly. Air conditioning units can cause a lot of water damage to your home.

Air conditioner

Air conditioners cause water damage when condensation builds and drip into your home. They are made to allow condensation to drip outside your home, but if they aren’t working properly or aren’t set up properly in your window, they can cause this water to run into your home instead of out! Also, if it is dripping out of the home, make sure it’s not dripping on to a deck below – or on to some other structure that can become damaged. The water should run away from the home as well. If not, it can collect at the base of your home causing water damage to your foundation, crawlspace, or basement.

Most air conditioning units aren’t meant to run constantly either. It’s a good idea to shut it off from time to time – especially if you’re not home. A malfunctioning air conditioning unit can create a lot of water damage if left unattended for a period of time.

What to Do When You Have a Leaky Air Conditioning Unit

If you’ve experience water damage from an air conditioning unit, contact us 24/7 at 1-888-443-3110. The air conditioning unit itself should not be used until it has been looked at by a technician. While air conditioning units are made to deal with water, you don’t want to risk electrocution if something goes wrong. Keep your house free of water damage and make sure your air conditioning unit is correctly running, installed and not left to cause issues unattended.
