Animals Stranded in Flooding
When flooding occurs it can be devastating not only to people but also to animals. Too often, animals are stranded and left behind.
People who have animals they have left behind or know of animals that have been stranded by a flood should alert local animal shelters and work with authorities to ensure the safety of their animals. Do not approach animals that don’t belong to you – wild or domesticated. Allow your trained local officials to do so. Even animals you know to usually be kind may be frightened and disoriented after a storm and become defensive.
Another great way to help stranded animals during flooding is to donate to your local animal shelters. Local animal shelters can become overwhelmed and every penny helps!
