Natural Mold Removal Options
Mold and mildew will become a problem in most of our homes at some point, and it is important to know what to do in order to successfully remediate it. While the professionals at Restoration Local are ready and prepared to solve your mold problems, we also readily admit that not all mold issues require such drastic measures. If we can help you do it on your own, we will.
Keep in mind that mold causes a number of health problems, including allergic reactions, fevers, sneezing, runny nose, and skin rashes. It may also aggravate and trigger asthma attacks, reduce the ability to breathe through the constriction of air passages. It also affects the lungs, throat, nose, and skin.
Ideally, prevention of mold is the key to avoiding it, and to do so you need to dry out any and all moisture that accumulates in the homes, dry out wet areas within 48 hours, and fix all leaks and drips as soon as they are discovered. Permanently damaged items should be gotten rid of, and carpets should not be installed near areas where water damage is likely to occur.
Dehumidifiers can be used to keep areas dry, and clean gutters will prevent leakage into other areas of the home. Air conditioners and dry air heaters can be used to reduce humidity, and cold surfaces should be covered with insulation.
To remove mold naturally, you can use plain vinegar, undiluted, to spray onto moldy areas. Allow it to sit for a while and then wipe clean.
Tree tea oil works wonders when it comes to killing mold and stopping the growth. Use 2 cups of oil with 2 cups of warm water and spray onto the mold. It will wipe away all traces of mold and the musty odor.
3% hydrogen peroxide will also kill mold, boosted with vinegar and used on smooth surfaces. Baking soda may be similarly used as an abrasive scrub designed to remove mildew.
Do you have vodka in the house? Mold doesn’t like it. So spritz it straight onto the mold. It not only kills the mold but provides for some celebration as well.
So don’t feel like you have to call us every time. Smaller mold growths may be eliminated fairly easily through these simple steps.
